After being drawn into a Psynergy Vortex, you find yourself stranded, powerless, in a world apparently untouched by Alchemy.

But following your arrival, Djinn have begun to materialise from the elements. The world’s inhabitants are beginning to realise their power, and not everyone has good intentions.

Set out on a world-spanning journey befriending and taming these elemental spirits to harness their Alchemical power and restore your Psynergy, all the while searching for a way to return home.


Rumours speak of a “Refuge” that has seemingly appeared out of nowhere, far to the North…

Announcing Elementalist: Spirit Guardian - an evolution of the Djinn (of the Refuge) game I have been working on and off on for quite a while, and basically my attempt to turn a Pokemon-esque Djinn battle system into a proper game that (kind of) fits into the GS universe.

I decided that I couldn’t really keep calling this thing “Djinn of the Refuge”, and eventually settled upon a title that fits in with the story. And there will be a bit of a story, though the majority of it will be told through smaller quests. If you are interested in writing a quest line or two, let me know and I'll see how we can work it into the game. I have the introduction and a general idea for the story plotted out, but will need help filling in the blanks. I’d like to incorporate some of our GSARverse wordbuilding into this as well.


From a functional perspective, the battle system is nearly complete. A combat alpha test will start sometime this weekend (I accidentally broke something and have to fix it first, oops) - this is open to everyone, but you will have to wait for me to set your account up. Most planned features are now implemented - djinn swapping, summons, limited item use.

For now, battles are limited to 1v1 at any one time. I don't know if the system will ever work properly with more than one character on either side from a gameplay/mechanical perspective (as opposed to functional, which should be possible), but I'll think about that in the future.

Unfortunately, many of the art assets are still missing as these take quite a bit of time to put together (spell/summon animations, sound effects etc). These will be added progressively, so if a spell is missing an animation, it probably isn’t a bug right now.

The rest of the game features – character skills, inventory management, exploration, quests, trading etc. is still in the works, and I will announce a timeframe for testing of these features in the near future. I don’t know if I’ll get to it in July, but at least some of these features will be ready soon(ish).  


The battle mechanics still probably need a lot of work - I've based them loosely off Pokemon, but they will need tweaking and balancing. I am going to aim to hold a few mechanics discussions in the chatroom/over Skype if we can get a group of people interested in participating together at the same time (probably during a weekend).

Several months ago I started writing up some of the mechanics information on the wiki – this info is still relevant for the most part, with the exception of the summon mechanics which I have reworked (I will update the page soon). Use this information as a basis of discussion, and I will update the pages as changes are made.



As for the launch of the full game, well, I don't want to set a date which I inevitably won't reach, so I'll just say "Episode 1 - late 2015 hopefully" for now. There will definitely be a limited full beta test at some point before that.

So for now, please express your interest if you wish to participate in the first combat alpha, and I’ll set up your account for later this weekend. It will run indefinitely, with progressive updates. You still need to be using the latest version of either Firefox or preferably Chrome (or Safari).

You ought to add a counter to the front page that shows a random number each time it is viewed. That way we will always know that there will be a certain amount of days until something happens. Still waiting on the continuation of the Antibody thing lol
